OUR Board of Trustees

Home-Start Caithness is managed on a day-today basis by the Senior Coordinator, but the whole scheme is overseen by an elected Board of Trustees.  All live and work within the local community and use their life skills to ensure that the scheme is able to provide local families with high quality, effective support.  To find out more about becoming a Trustee, click here.

Meet our current Trustees......

 Bill Fernie

Bill has been an elected councillor for the Highland Council since 2003.  He was formally Inspector of Taxes, covering Caithness, Sutherland, Orkney and Shetland.  Bill now runs the Caithness.org website, as well as being involved with a number of voluntary organisations, including Laurandy Day Care Centre and Hi-Scot Credit Union.

 David Smith

I have lived and worked in Caithness since 1975 and have recently retired from my work as a scientist and department manager of a company providing services to the nuclear industry locally, nationally and internationally.

I am married, have 3 daughters and 7 grandchildren all of whom live in Caithness.

My interests include walking, usually with our dogs, reading, travel, good food and wine and watching wildlife. I have been a member of the Boys’ Brigade since I joined as a boy of 6 and have never really grown up and left. I am currently the captain of 1st Thurso company and have served a term as president of the Highland Battalion.

Having spare time and wanting to do something interesting and useful in the community, I was introduced to the work of Home Start by my daughter who suggested that this may be what I was looking for.
